Cristo si è fermato a Eboli & DVD

Chiara Mazzucchelli

This classic film released in 1979 and directed by Francesco Rosi is based on the book by Carlo Levi which tells the story of a year spent in exile to a small, remote and primitive village in Lucania (Basilicata).

This advanced-intermediate level film study text covers seven, 15 to 20-minute sequences of the film with exercises for comprehension, vocabulary, grammar as well as speaking and writing.

  • "Spunti culturali" are included for each sequence to enrich cultural knowledge of Italy as relates to the film.
  • 50 pages, softcover, ISBN 978-0-9795031-7-7
  • DVD available separately, Item # 383-EBOLI

This text can be used solely with the film, or it can be used as a
primary text integrated with a grammar book and Carlo Levi's novel
in an advanced content-based course.

The Edizioni Farinelli Film Study Program is the most systematic approach to learning Italian through film. Teachers can keep their curriculum fresh and interesting by introducing film as an excellent practice activity. University students and self-study learners build language skills through focused viewing of Italian film. Mature high school students on the preparatory track for standardized exams in Italian enjoy film while improving their knowledge of language and culture.

“Mazzucchelli's finely balanced language and culture film text provides valuable tools to introduce complex historical issues in interrelated ways. It effectively re-uses the vocabulary, structures, and themes of Rosi's important film in different environments. Comprehensive exercises cover appropriate grammar while addressing dynamically all four language learning skills. The book and film can be used as part of a series of EF Film Study Programs on related cultural topics.”
